Why Amateur Photography is Important . . .

I love taking photographs.  For over thirty years, I have been an amateur photographer.  It has only been in the last year that I have worked to start selling my work.

Today, I ran across an article on an amateur photographer who won a Pulitzer Prize for his photograph.  As I read this article, I was moved by the photographer’s story and his motivation for the photo.  Here is the article . . .

“A Furniture Dealer and His Pulitzer.”

It is easy as an amateur photographer or enthusiast to under-appreciate the  value of what we do. Truthfully, we hunger for the moment that we capture that compelling image that contributes to how humanity grows and moves to a better hope.  If you say you don’t, you are lying.  I pray that day comes when I capture that moment.

Whether a professional or an amateur, keep shooting.  Keep capturing reality as it actually is.  You are recording humanity . . .
